Workshop in the Countryside – Javier Vallhonrat
EXPERIENCING THE PROCESS
July 16 – 21, 2019
The workshop “Experiencing the Process” takes an intimate and attentive look at the different processes undergone by anyone involved in creative activity.
Through dialogue, games and the different experiences that form part of the workshop, we will seek to reveal the creative power of our own inner resources.
Description of the workshop:
Throughout the workshop we will approach creativity both as a universal human capacity and as a manifestation of the individual. Subject as it is to multiple dynamic processes, creativity allows us to avoid the obvious, the safe and the predictable; it poses problems and generates new solutions as well as imagining and generating new webs of meaning through expression. From this perspective, the workshop is a laboratory for exploring and discovering different aspects of the creative process and how it manifests itself in our photographic work.
Specifically with regard to the creation of photographic projects, by reviewing the work of different authors as well as that of participants, and with the help of different games and exercises, we will discover and explore a series of pointers that allow us to become more consciously aware of different aspects of the creative process and the way in which this manifests itself in photography, while at the same time discovering, experiencing and trying out different resources related to the creation of photographic projects.
We will go on an excursion during the workshop, taking advantage of the different possibilities offered by the remarkable natural surroundings close to the Casa dos Muros. In this way we can put into practice some of the resources that we have worked with during the workshop.
Viewings will be organised…
Aims of the workshop:
- To expand the ways in which we perceive, develop and bring ideas to fruition, discovering and consciously experiencing our own creative resources.
- To generate an internal space in which to give significance to the apparently insignificant.
- To facilitate contact and a creative relationship with our interior world, discovering its expressive potential.
Audience:
The workshop is intended mainly for photographers, teachers and students of Photography, Fine Arts or Audiovisual Communication, and anyone interested in photography.
Materials to be brought by participants:
Participants should bring some of their own work, which will be used as a basis for certain exercises. Given the nature of the exercises, the number of different pieces of work should not exceed 5, since the aim is not for us to view work (it is unlikely that there will be time) but for participants to have their own material to work with.
The pieces of work should be chosen not for their technical qualities or their aesthetic or expressive appeal, but as a function of the extent to which they generate in their author restlessness or perplexity, a desire to inquire, to know more.
The pieces of work should be brought on an autonomous medium (paper, tablet or laptop) and not on a pen drive, since we will all be working simultaneously.
Lastly, I strongly recommend that participants bring a notebook specially for the occasion which will serve as a “logbook”, a “process map”, a “container for ideas” etc.
